Ogada Children’s Home Playground Project
Kenya
Location: Kisumu, Kenya
Beneficiaries: More than 100 children living in the Ogada Children’s Home
Background: The children living in Ogada Children’s Home come from rural villages surrounding Kisumu because either their mothers or grandmothers can no longer care for them, or because they are homeless. While there is electricity in the home, there is no running water and no indoor toilets. The home is clean and accomodating, and the children are well cared for and go to school, but most of the funds raised and donated to care for them go toward necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter—there is little left over to fund the types of play activities that are so important to the psycho-social well-being of children.
Specific Objectives
Raise funds to build a safe and clean playground
Promote the importance of play in the social and psychological growth of the children
Encourage physical activity through play, so important to the physical growth, development, and overall health of the children
