Welcome Workplace Workshops

Continue the learning process through the comprehensive list of Welcome Workplace workshops to build and sustain a diverse and inclusive environment focused on developing both the individual and group intercultural competencies. A typical workshop is 3-hours but can be customized into 2-hour, 3-hour, half-day (4-hour) or full-day (8-hour) programs.  Learning is done by a combination of presentation, conversation, videos, and individual, small, and large group activities and discussions by certified facilitators.

Develop an understanding of culture which is the foundation of building intercultural competency and the key to an effective diverse and inclusive organization. Learning through storytelling, core concepts, and key vocabulary of “cultures” and learning tools to reach out to others across cultural lines to build cultural humility. Also includes an exploration of the Welcome Workplace guided development process model.

Build on the foundation of intercultural competency by exploring forms of bias while learning to recognize and manage these unconscious thoughts and behaviors. Explore stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination as forms of bias while learning to recognize and manage these unconscious thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Learn techniques for cross-cultural verbal and non-verbal communication, managing difficult dialogue and how to navigate challenging conversations.

Biases: Conscious and Implicit

Implicit bias is something that we all have. First, we will define the different forms of bias and discuss the origins of implicit bias. Through the workshop, we will explore how to recognize our biases and how to manage these unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that they do not develop into stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. We will also discuss biases across groups and generations and examine how to bridge the gaps with communication, understanding and empathy.

Building Intercultural Competency with Humility and Communication

Learn the framework of intercultural competency and cultural humility. Through self-reflection and self-critique, individuals learn about another’s culture by examining one’s own beliefs and cultural identities. Learn skills to interact effectively with others, recognize and challenge power imbalances and navigate differences while managing emotions and building intercultural literacy. Explore how to recognize implicit and explicit messages, identify our own biases, and learn how to manage these unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that they do not develop into stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination. Through narrative storytelling, examine how to bridge the gaps with communication, understanding and empathy.

Navigating Difficult Conversations

Learn techniques for cross-cultural verbal and non-verbal communication and managing difficult dialogue. Learn how to navigate challenging conversations, planned and unplanned, with principles and practices that mitigate conflict and lead to win-win results.

Additional Workshops

Workshops addressing additional diversity, equity and inclusion topics and other developmental needs can be created and customized for your group to meet your developmental needs.  Topics can be incorporated into other workshops if applicable. Additional developmental time may need to be contracted.
