Backyard Gardening Project–Philippines
Location: Olongapo and Subic, Zambales
Beneficiaries: 30 sponsored families
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought massive unemployment and food shortages to the Philippines. Millions have lost their jobs and food and financial support from the Philippines government have been unequally and unfairly distributed among Filipino people. Therefore, many Filipino people are taking their survival and well-being into their own hands. It is in this context that Pearl S. Buck Foundation Philippines hopes to continue a third phase of the Backyard Gardening Project. In Olongapo and Subic, sponsored families are enjoying the success of the previous two projects, and more and more sponsored families are requesting the opportunity to grow their own nutritious food instead of relying on the local government.
To help 30 sponsored families plant, grow, and sustain their own backyard vegetable gardens to provide basic nutritional food for themselves and their neighbors to enable them all to be more self-reliant.
