Looking Back on A Year of Bridging Cultures and Changing Lives

Thanks to all of Pearl S. Buck International’s generous child sponsors and donors, the children, families, and communities supported and served by our global affiliates and their humanitarian aid programs continued to receive nutritional, educational, health, and livelihood aid during 2025.

The Philippines continued to support educational endeavors. Thanks to tutoring and other educational programming, 100 percent of sponsored students advanced to the next grade level. College enrollment and graduation continue to grow as well, with graduates entering fields including teaching, medicine, engineering, and nursing.

Thailand supported families dealing with food insecurity by providing practical farming skills for produce, frogs, hens and fish so they not only have a nutritious source of food but also a source of income with the sale of the animals. In addition, staff from the Thailand office has been providing important outreach and supplies to families and sponsored children who have been displaced by ongoing military violence along the Thailand-Cambodia border.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and donors, Vietnam was still able to supply the orphans with nutritious food, educational support, health initiatives, and social programming despite limited funding from the government.

Chongshi Girls’ School in China is helping keep the legacy of Pearl S. Buck alive with a curriculum dedicated to her life and literary works. At school, the girls continue to have opportunities to build on their education, overcome their difficulties, develop leadership and social skills, and become better prepared to create a better life in the future.

Korea continued its work with multicultural youth and families, including offering youth mentor training, family counseling, bicultural heritage exploration programming, and scholarship support for students with outstanding academic performance and special talents. This year, Pearl S. Buck Foundation Korea also celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Taiwan continues to help immigrant students develop the necessary skills to do well in school and new immigrant parents, in particular women supporting their families on entry-level jobs, to learn crucial professional skills for employability and the potential to start their own businesses in fields such as nail art and hairdressing.

As we close out another year, everyone working in our affiliate offices continues to do outstanding work with marginalized populations as they build on the legacy of Pearl S. Buck. None of this humanitarian service around the world this past year could have been possible without your generosity and kindness.
