Bomb Bunkers and Mobile Learning Platforms for Families Displaced Due to Border Military Violence – Thailand

Location: Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand
Beneficiaries: 500 families served by Pearl S. Buck Foundation Thailand
Background:

Armed clashes between Thai and Cambodian military forces along the Thailand border which first erupted over the summer have continued and escalated as the end of the year approaches. This intense use of heavy weaponry has led to urgent evacuation orders across four border provinces: Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. Over 35,000 people have abandoned their homes for temporary shelters. Specifically, in Ubon Ratchathani, over 500 families under the care of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation Thailand were ordered by military and provincial authorities to evacuate their villages immediately. The damage inflicted by these clashes is not limited to property; it is destroying children’s sense of safety and their educational opportunities.

Project Goal

Maximize the safety of the families, help them sustain the education of the children throughout the evacuation, provide immediate psycho-social support to reduce stress and fear, and restore economic stability to families who, in fleeing the violence, have lost their source of income.
