Computer Support Helps Children in Vietnamese Orphanages with Education
Though Vietnam had Covid mostly under control by 2023, the country continued to suffer repercussions from years of dealing with the pandemic. People continued to be confronted with various challenges, especially the disadvantaged children in the orphanages served by Pearl S. Buck International Vietnam (PSBIV). During the two-year peak of the pandemic, the children could not go to school in-person. They also had many difficulties attending online class because of a lack of computers, which had a serious negative effect on their academic performance.
Presently, schools are requiring children to do online searches to complete their school work, learn computer skills, attend virtual classes, and print worksheets to complete their assignments. Due to these circumstances, PSBIV has worked closely with the orphanages to supply computers and printers to assist the children with their education and promote a better learning environment.
Understanding the children’s difficulties completing their schoolwork and desire for a computer room with adequate facilities, PSBIV has provided seven computers, four printers and two computer power supplies for 177 children living in two of the orphanages.
Thanks to PSBIV’s support, the orphanages have computer rooms with enough facilities for the children to attend online classes, practice computer skills, and search for information. This encourages self-studying and an active learning process for children. With computers and printers, teachers and staff in the orphanage can better prepare lessons and print the necessary worksheets for children to do their homework. Naturally, computer classes become more exciting and useful as children learn necessary computer skills such as keyboarding, working with Microsoft Office, and online research.
The goal of PSBIV is to create a modern and creative educational environment with enough facilities for the children to have access to their studies, be excited about schooling, ensure their academic progress, significantly improve their academic achievements, and become equipped with necessary computer skills for future jobs. Thanks to the support of sponsors and donors, the children are more motivated to fulfill their daily tasks and make progress in their studies. Thanks to their generosity, PSBIV has successfully supported the orphanages with basic necessities.
The main mission of PSBIV is implementing helpful, meaningful projects and programs to benefit disadvantaged Vietnamese children so they have favorable conditions to develop, receive a good education, and have a promising future. PSBIV, the orphanages, and the disadvantaged children express their deepest and greatest gratitude to donors and sponsors. With their significant support, PSBIV believes that all disadvantaged children in the seven orphanages will thrive in a modern learning environment, make progress in their academic performance, and have a promising future ahead.
