China-Themed Tour

This tour engages the students using primary sources as an opportunity to understand the politicalsocial and cultural aspects of the Chinese over a 100-year period. Pearl S. Buck won her Nobel Prize in Literature for the novel The Good Earth, which helped the world better understand the Chinese people and culture. It is the goal of this tour to provide that same opportunity to the students through various activities. 

Pearl S. Buck House Tour

This docent-led tour of the first floor of the Pearl S. Buck House emphasizes the Asian artifacts that belonged to Pearl and those she acquired over time.  

Photography Analysis

Using photos that span from 1920 to 2020, students are asked through deductive reasoning to determine the changes experienced in China historically, socially and politically in specific cities and rural areas. 

Analysis of Pearl S. Buck Writings

Various documents, written by Pearl S. Buck, are used to understand the implications of colonialism on China and its influence on unique social behaviors of Chinese culture. 

Traveler of China

Students view a slide presentation of China followed by a postcard compare and contrast activity on China’s governing buildings from the dynasties through the revolution to modern day China.
