Pearl S. Buck International to Host Symposium in September

Pearl S. Buck International Symposium Program

This September, Pearl S. Buck International will welcome Pearl S. Buck scholars, researchers, writers, and enthusiasts from around the globe to its international symposium, “Pearl S. Buck: Bridging Her Legacy into the Next 60 Years.” The symposium, which is being co-hosted by West Virginia University and Delaware Valley University, will take place September 26-28, 2024 on both the Pearl S. Buck Estate in Hilltown as well as Delaware Valley University in Doylestown.

2024 is the 60th anniversary of Pearl S. Buck International’s founding by Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, humanitarian, and activist Pearl S. Buck. The symposium is part of the yearlong diamond anniversary celebration. It will feature panel discussions, speaker sessions, and social and networking opportunities. Guests will have the opportunity to take a curator-led tour of the Pearl S. Buck House National Historic Landmark Museum; meet educator and advocate Julie Henning at a book-signing for her autobiography, A Rose in a Ditch, which chronicles her story of being raised as Pearl Buck’s daughter; and get a first look at Pearl S. Buck International’s brand new virtual tour of the Pearl S. Buck House.

Three keynote talks will close out the symposium: “Pearl S. Buck’s Humanitarian Vision in War and Peace,” by David M. Crowe, Professor Emeritus of History & Law, Elon University and Presidential Fellow, Chapman University; Dr. Lu Zhangping, Ph.D., President of Zhenjiang Pearl S. Buck Research Association and Professor at Jiangsu University Library; and “Legacy and Impact of Pearl S. Buck in Korea,” Lee Jong Chan, Pearl S. Buck Memorial Hall.

This symposium is open to the public and tickets are on sale now through August 24. To purchase tickets, view the symposium schedule, and for more information, visit https://pearlsbuckinternational.regfox.com/pearl-s-buck-international-symposium.
