Hygiene and Handwashing Stations – Thailand
Location: Bad Kud Rangum School, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand
Beneficiaries: 100 people — 80 students, 20 teachers and parents
Background:
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a common illness among children, especially those under the age of 5, and outbreaks typically occur during the rainy season in early winter. In most cases, symptoms will resolve on their own, but the disease can be recurrent and can lead to more severe complications. Outbreaks are most commonly found in childcare centers and schools, where it easily spreads.
Project Goal
HFMD outbreaks can lead to adverse health and development outcomes in children, school closures, increased medical expenses, and loss of income for parents who must stay home to care for their sick children. This project will focus on prevention through good personal hygiene practice, including training for teachers, students, and parents, the installation of hygienic handwashing stations, and promoting proper handwashing.
