Raising Frogs for Food and Income in Thailand

Support Frog Raising 13

In Ban Nong Luang, Mae Ramard, Tak, Pearl S. Buck Foundation Thailand (PSBFT) initiated a project to assist 53 families of sponsored children in providing substantial food and extra income for their households through the raising of frogs. The project aims to create jobs in the community and encourage children to develop life skills such as responsibility and caretaking.

The families of 13 sponsored children in Ban Nong Luang were chosen as pilot project families. PSBFT provided them with baby frogs and supplies as well as training on feeding and caring for the frogs. PSBFT staff made home visits to the families, giving them advice on raising the frogs and continuously monitoring the frog growth over the eight-month project.

The initiative has achieved its intended goals. The families learned how to raise frogs, which can be eaten or sold for extra income. The initiative also created jobs for sponsored families in the community, allowing community members of all ages to learn and practice raising frogs. Children and teens will continue to learn responsibility, working with others, and productive uses of their free time.

The project has been running for six months, and the sponsored children have enjoyed assisting their families in taking care of the frogs and even playing with them. The children and families find great satisfaction in frog raising.

Thank you to everyone who supported this project and to all child sponsors, whose generosity changes the lives of children, families, and communities served by PSBFT and PSBI every day!
