Please see the March 19, 2020 statement from Pearl S. Buck International for an update on the well-being of our sponsored children and their families during the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic. You can read the statement here.
Children Around the World Need Your Help
Children with special needs or whose families suffer from abject poverty live in overcrowded and under-served orphanages in Vietnam, where their only food for the day might be a little bit of rice gruel. In addition, children and youth who have HIV are discriminated against being able to go to school, get a job, or have any avenue to success.
Young boys and girls in the Philippines face the excruciating decision of whether to stay in school and get the education they need to climb out of poverty or be wooed by the enticing but false promises of the sex tourism industry to earn money to help feed and support their families.
Girls in China want to stay in school to achieve their dreams of being teachers, doctors, and more.
In Thailand, hill tribe children and their families face intense racial discrimination—the children drop out of school to help feed and support their families and are at risk of never breaking the cycle of poverty in which they are stuck.
You Can Make a Difference
Malnutrition, disease, and a lack of education are all daunting obstacles these children and their families face on a daily basis. Because of this, they dream of a better life. Without help, however, the means to achieve it lie out of reach. But for only $1.00 a day, humanitarian aid from compassionate donors like you can make a life-changing difference. This aid, facilitated by our overseas offices, provides nutrition, medical care, education, school supplies, and/or psycho-social programs that help children survive today and provides hope, skills, and health for a brighter tomorrow.
Sponsor A Child
Child Sponsors provide vital support to a child in need while developing a one-on-one relationship with their sponsored child through the letters they write and receive. For only $1 a day a sponsor can make a life-changing difference for one child.
We know that children sponsored through Pearl S. Buck International:
- Have better employment opportunities when they graduate because they were able to devote time and effort to studying and doing well in school
- Have more food security and access to more nutritional, better quality food
- Are healthier thanks to regular doctor and dentist visits
- Benefit from psycho-social programs such as home visits, family education, and cultural celebrations to instill they are valuable citizens of the world.
We know that Pearl S. Buck International child sponsors:
- Develop a close relationship with their sponsored child or children due to our one-sponsor-to-one child policy
- Share a bond with their sponsored child or children that evolves and grows through the sharing of letters, drawings, and gifts
- Know that over 85% of their generosity goes directly to fund the health, education, and psycho-social programs that support their child or children
