Literature-Themed Tour
Pearl S. Buck:
Novelist, Essayist, Children’s Story Writer
Poet, Comics Writer
All three tour options are centered on the literary accomplishments of Pearl S. Buck and take about 2-3 hours. Each part of the tours lasts 30 to 40 minutes with trained docents or instructors. The tour is timed to accomplish the full program with a group escort.
The Good Earth Tour
- Docent-guided tour of the Pearl S. Buck House correlated to the Pearl Buck novel, The Good Earth
- China of Pearl’s Time – Photo analysis workshop
- Analysis of themes and characters of The Good Earth related to Chinese culture
- Why the Nobel Prize for Literature for The Good Earth? – Changing Asian image in the world

- IPad directed tour of the Pearl S. Buck House viewing a video portrayal of Pearl discussing some of her novels
- Poetry – Using the Poem Mascara – students write a comical poem
- Pearls of Pearl – Analysis of famous quotes from Pearl S. Buck’s writings
- Children's Stories – Story in a Bag – students write a children’s story based on Story Map methodology
- Commentaries of Pearl S. Buck on society through her essays and writings
- Using the novel The Outsiders, students complete a comic story

- Docent-led tour of the Pearl S. Buck House centered around the impact of Pearl S. Buck on her community and people
- Who or what influences students today? – Influencers of today
- China of Pearl as an influence on Pearl’s Life– Photo analysis
