Summer Quilt Exhibit at the Pearl S. Buck House

The Pearl S. Buck House National Historic Landmark Museum invites visitors to explore American quilting traditions in a new summer exhibit spanning the Civil War era to the present day. Installed throughout the historic former home of award-winning writer and humanitarian Pearl S. Buck, “Pieced Together: American Quilts Across Generations” showcases a remarkable range of quilts that reflect both everyday life and artistic expression across generations of American women.

Featuring 163 years of quilting history, the collection includes early utilitarian quilts from the 19th century alongside contemporary art quilts, including award-winning pieces from regional and national exhibitions. Each quilt highlights the evolution of design, technique, and cultural storytelling, offering insight into the changing role of quilting in American life.

The quilts in this exhibit were crafted by both modern quilters and quilting guilds, using both modern and vintage patterns and materials, as well as family heirloom quilts, handed down generation to generation over the course of decades and even centuries.

Visitors will have the option of experiencing this celebration of American art, culture, and history as part of a Life & Legacy tour of the museum or on a tour exclusively focused on the quilts. Tickets for “Pieced Together: American Quilts Across Generations” are on sale now.
